キャリアに裏付けられた確かなスキルと、スタイリッシュでキュートなルックスから、DJ界の"姫"と呼ばれる実力派、超人気DJ。ヒップホップをメインフィールドにしながら、R&B、ポップス、ハウス、エレクトロなど、多種多様なパーティーメイクが高く評価されている。また、日本各地のクラブやイベントは勿論、アメリカ、アジア各国などでのキャリアも長く、近年ではラスベガスで開催された人気ブランド"ED HARDY"のトレードショーに招聘され、現地で3日間に渡ってフロアメイクするなど世界で活躍中。
その容姿によりファッション界からのラブコールも絶えず、神戸コレクション・仙台コレクションなどのファッションショーに出演、多くの雑誌でモデルを務める傍ら、アパレルデザイナーやメディアMC、DJ講師を担当するなど、その活動は多岐に渡る。テレビ東京系「音風♪」では番組司会を務め、日本テレビ系「少年チャンプル」などのレギュラーほか、TVやラジオでの露出も多数。
代表作は、待望の洋楽メジャー第1弾となった『BERRY JAM COLLECTION mixed by DJ MAYUMI』（2007年6月リリース）、メジャー1stシングル「PARTY UP（feat. ZEEBRA, HOKT, MAY'S）」や豪華アーティストとのコラボレーションが実現したダブルAサイド2ndシングル「PARADISE（feat. AK-69, BIG RON & JAY'ED）」などを収録した『BERRY JAM PARADISE』（2009年7月リリース）、海外セレブブランド"Love Is..."とのタイアップ・コンピで、自身が監修／セレクトした『Love Is... selected by DJ MAYUMI』（2010年1月リリース）など数知れず。その他、日本人アーティストとしては初めて"ED HARDY"とタイアップした『BERRY JAM COLLECTION 2』（2008年7月リリース）では、オリジナルTシャツをプロデュースし、日本人初となるオフィシャルラインとしてED HARDY全国直営店で販売された。
現在、自身がプロデュースを手がけた、Vestaxのオリジナルヘッドフォン"HMX-1"が世界展開中。また、「Let It Go（feat. SATOMI'）」を収録し、人気ブランドとタッグを組んだ『tommy girl × DJ MAYUMI STREET COLLECTION』（2010年11月リリース）などがロングヒットを記録している。新曲「I'll Be There（feat. WISE, 石川マリー）」を収録した最新作、「PEACH JOHN×DJ MAYUMI Private Pink Party」が2012年1月25日リリースされた。
